Map 1 - Jotenkeld - Coming of the druids
When you first enter this map, take the two weapons found by the bodies
and then head for the opening in the fence. A cinematic will start showing
you the armed druid and two dwarves having a friendly chat about how Loki
will rule the Universe etc etc. You have to find and destroy four icons
located in this level to get through to the next map. Three of them are
locatable without any real problems, but one of them may be harder to find.
Here's how you do it:
1) Destroy the "sacred
place". The druid is almost invincible (find him in the building
past the river on the left hand side). To defeat him you need to destroy
all of the stones in the stone circle (look around, you'll soon find it).
NOTE: Don't destroy them all too quickly,
there's a bug in the map that causes the counter to go wrong!
2)
Eliminate the druid. Now that he is weakened,
go and give him a piece of your mind! When he's gone, you'll see a key
appear. Walk up to it to take it. You'll now have access to some of the
huts elsewhere in the village.
3) Find the 4 icons.
One is inside the hut shown here close to the mountain near the well. It
was locked but now you have the key! Slap the dwarf and bash the icon.
Another
can be found by the gates .... Another at the far end
of the river.
And
another inside a barricaded hut with a particularly
upset norseman inside!
Once
you've bashed all the icons, step through the portal and you will find
yourself in the next map.
Map 2 - Nidavellir - Realm of the Dark Elves
You'll
start the map in a snowy waste land. Hunt around and you'll find an axe
in a small cave with a dead viking. You'll also find some fruit if you're
peckish. Muller the unhappy "Wendy" and head for the hidden
opening behind the trees (see the arrow in the pic?).
A short cinematic will show you where the next icon is. Carry on and dispose of the guard by the wall. Don't bother trying to get the rune power, you can't get it from there.
Carry on and once again, a new cinematic will appear showing you how the gates to the fortress are opened. A viking strikes a gong and a dwarf somewhere else in the map pushes a lever and the gate opens. Don't bother striking the gong, the dwarf won't open it for you! You have to find another way in.
There are some lizards behind some crates
in the corner. Yum!
If you carry on around a little further past the gates you'll have to dispose of another viking. Once you've done that, take a look at all those crates against the wall. Smash'em up and a low opening will be revealed. Crouch to get through it.
Put down the two vikings that aren't happy to see you and take a look around. There's a rune power in one of the dark corners as well as the one that was visible to you earlier.
Climb up the chain and say "hello" to 3 more annoyed Norse boyz with your chosen weapon. There you'll find the icon. Destroy it.
Run
along either to the side of the building or through it (wiping any
opposition along the way). You'll soon see that you're the other side of
the gate that's closed. Jump off and down into the
snow and despose of any more enemies that come your way (there are
lots of mad goblins waiting in the mountains to jump down on you). In one
of the huts to the right, there's a dwarf, he has a nice work sword if
you can put him to sleep.
When you're finished looking around and getting angry with the locals, you'll notice that the double doors to the fortress are locked. Once again, you'll have to find another way in.
Jump into the water
near the gates and find a large open pipe. Swim into it.
You'll
soon see a machine operating with a large piston moving up and down. There
are two exits to this area. Choose the exit on the
right and stay to your left as you swim through. You'll see an octagonal
exit above you. Swim up to it and draw your sword quickly to dispose
of the guard that comes to greet you.
In that room you'll find
a lever. Pull it. Nothing happened? That's right. You have to find
another one. Don't bother with the door, like all the others, its locked!
Instead, jump back
into the water and swim back the way you came. Go
to the tunnel that was previously on your left when you entered
and like before, swim up through the octagonal exit.
This time there's an aggresive dwarf with a hammer. Teach him a lesson! Then, pull the lever he was guarding.
Another cinematic will show you the piston stopping. This causes a build up of pressure which blows the grill out of the roof!
Swim back into through
the water and look for another exit above
you. Swim up to it and you'll soon be shifting a large grate out
of your way.
Now, you need to somehow get on the roof and drop down through the grill that you just blew out (see the ringed area in the pic).
To do that you need to get up into the mountainous area. You'll need to get back on the roof where the icon was again.
To
do that, you need to open the gate to get back to the other side.
Find the dwarf guarding the lever in a hut on the right hand side of the fortress (if you're facing the gate). Kill the dwarf and pull the lever, the gate will now be opened.
Head back through
the gate and then through the opening you
crouched through earlier (there will be still more opposition).
Climb up the chain and back up where the icon
used to be. Head to the left had side of the long banquet hut and climb
the crate against the wall.
Run along the wall
and then along the mountain until you come to this area (seen from
above and below in the pictures).
Jump across to
that ledge and kill the dwarf.
Run around the back
of the fortress until you're on the roof of the area where the grate
was blown off. Drop into the opening and into
the corridor. You're now behind those double doors you couldn't get through
earlier. Run along the passage and you'll
be on your way to map 3.
Map 3 - Inside Nidavellir
Run
along through the dark and a double door will open. Only take the
rune power if you want a fight with a mech dwarf!
Go through the double
doors on your left, follow the passage through some more double
doors and into a jail area.
Dispose
of the two dwarves that jump down at you. Be careful of the area in between
the stairs, its booby trapped! Go up the stairs and
head left.Walk along the ledge and pull the
lever to release the goblins. Kill the goblins and in the far
left cell you'll find a broken wall.
Smash
it to reveal a secret way into a corridor.
Smack
up all of the zombies in there and then go back to the jail area
(you can't go anywhere else yet).
Go through the double doors at the top of the stairs and follow the long passage until you enter a small room. There's the final icon, but its a trap!
The 3 dwarf statues will come to life.
Kill them nd destroy the icon. A short cinematic
will show that you've just broken the power of the portals. There'll be
just enough power for you to get through the last one!
Once
you've done that, the 4 doors will open. Go through. Kill
the 2 mech dwarves and the next set of doors will open. Go through
that set of doors. Kill the 4 Sark warriors
and the last set of doors will open. Go through. Fight
your way through the zombies until you find
two levers (one on either side of a wall which you can climb over).
Pull the levers to reveal a cinematic showing the 3 Sark warriors waking up near by and a gate opening above them.
Find the open passage
(its the one you were in earlier) and follow it to the end.
Kill
the sarks and climb up some crates. Jump across
to a ledge near the ceiling and follow the short passage to the
lever.
Pull the lever to open the double doors in the room with the water where the Sarks were.
Go through those
doors and you'll see another druid waiting for you. Oh dear! Another
trap! He legs it and locks the doors.
Loki
laughs as the walls slowly move in on you. Look above you and you'll see
slots in the ceiling. Climb
up the wall to your right and into the slot. Drop down behind them
and you will find two openings that take you to another room.
Drop into the room
and kill the 3 druids.
Find 3 levers and activate
them. A short cinematic will show you a door opening underwater.
That's in the room where you killed the
3 sarks so you need to find your way back there. Unfortunately those metal
walls that tried to squash you earlier are still shut so you need to find
a way to open them. See
that lever in the picture
on the right? Pull it, but don't waste any time! As soon as you've
pulled it those walls will be opening back up. While they are moving you
have to climb back up through into the gap
again (it might help you to take that torch near the lever).
Once you've climbed through, you'll see
that the wall is about to crush you again. Before it does, climb
up the wall into the gap in the ceiling again as you did before
and drop back down in between the walls into the
room.
Go
back through the double doors into the room with the water. Drop
into the water and look for that opening. Swim
into the opening, go down to another opening and swim along that.
You should then be making your way upward to fresh air again. Get out quickly
and draw your sword as another mech dwarf is waiting for you! Smack him
down and go through that blue field. That will take you to the portal and
through that portal is the final map!
Map 4 - The Dark Elf Returns
The
big boss Dwarf is waiting for you and if you're going to defeat him you
need to be fast and efficient. Just as in the original SP Rune game, this
guy's power is drawn from a central point which you must destroy. You
can destroy boss man by switching 5 levers found in the chambers
above. But, you have to do them in the right order
and you also need to watch those pesky crabs too! There's a lift that will
take you to each lever, but they are only activated when a particular lever
is used. You could simply find the first lift that takes you up there and
then stay up there. That can be tricky though as there are loads of those
tentacle things up there that don't want to be disturbed. Whilst you're
hacking away at those to get past, the dwarf dude is zapping you.
The other way is to throw each lever and drop down to the ground level to find the next lift that works. You can then get to each lever that way. Here is a plan from the editor that will show you which order you need to do the levers in.
Once all the 5 levers are used, the dwarf boss will be fried and the double doors at the other end will be opened to the final portal. Go through that and you're done.
