EZkeel's Rune Arena News

Friday 3rd August

Where have I been? Well, moving and getting stuck without an internet connection mainly. Anyhow. I haven't been completely lazy!
I made a new 5 level single player map pack called Nidavellir, its been very well received so far, so download it from my maps page if you'd like to give it a try.

If you're finding it a bit too challenging you can always take a look at the walkthrough page right here.

Saturday 10th March

After a few net troubles with the zone portals in the map, DM-Excelsior is now ready for release.
This map is designed to hold several players but has a 1 on 1 flavour.

The main area has all the lower end weapons, shields on the walls and health items.
If you want the more powerful weapons or the rune of power you'll have to fight for them!
To win one of these items you have to enter one of 4 arenas designed for 1 on 1 combat.

When 2 players enter an arena it is sealed off until only one of the players remains.
Once a player is victorious, the weapon or rune power will be made available and the player
is free to leave and go back to the main area armed to the teeth!

Arena 1: Dwarf battle axe - Close combat in a small area with a column in the centre.
Arena 2: Dwarf work sword - Battle on an island suspended in a dark void. Walk off the edge and you're history.
Arena 3: Dwarf work hammer - Fight or hide by weaving in and out of an array of large columns.
Arena 4: Rune of power - Thrash out your differences on a small platform surrounded by deadly lava.

Download it from the maps page.

Wednesday 28th February

I'm close to releasing my next map which will be called DM-Excelsior. Don't ask me why its called that, it just seemed like a good name at the time. The map will be quite large and should be good for about 10 or 12 players. The twist is that it should also be good for 1 on 1 too. The map will consist of a main area with the lower weapons, but there is also 4 smallish one on one arenas each with a different theme. I tweaked a piece of code I picked up on one of the forums so that when two players enter an arena its sealed off, and no-one can get in or out until one of the duelers is eliminated. As soon as only one player remains in there the doors are opened and something very useful is available: either a Dwarf  Work hammer, work sword, battle axe or a full rune power! You're then free to wreak havoc in the main area.

Below are a number of shots from the map, click on them for a full size view:

Sunday 25th February

I've been a bit quiet on the Rune front for the last couple of weeks, mainly because I released Legacy for UT on the 16th and I had quite a bit to do with that.
However, I'm currently working on a new Rune map which I'll have shots of shortly. Its going to be a map with multiple 1 on 1 arenas so it should be quite good fun. You'll have to defeat another player in one of the arenas before getting one of the more meaty weapons.
I also added a new page to the links section for another new site that's cropped up. Plenty of goodies there and a funky beat to boot: Check out: Voelgahr's Realm

Sunday 11th February

I'm now releasing DM-Fathom which I also submitted to the Rune mapping competition. That one didn't get a mention so I guess its OK to put it out for general release. Pop over to my maps page to the Maps section to download it.

Saturday 10th February

I just spotted over at the Rune web page that Human Head have announce the winners to their competition! Congratulations must go out to the winners: Eric Evans, Heiko Dreyer, Dr Pest, Hayden Wilkinson and Mike 'Oriain' Ryan. WELL DONE guys.

I even managed to get an honorable mention myself for DM-Vidar, hehe. :)

Friday 9th February

As promised, here is my latest map: DM-Raldor. Have fun with it, but please, take a look at the readme file to get the best out of it. You can also download it from my Maps page too.

Wednesday 7th February

I've had some great feedback about my first public map DM-Odin. Thanks to the people who commented at Evil City and also to Rune Center who gave it 87/100. Thanks. :)

I'll be releasing a new map late on Friday called DM-Raldor. It's a small map but I'm hoping this map will prove to be a strategic challenge. Players will have to have their wits about them when going for a weapon! You'll see what I mean when I release the map. To avoid confusion, when you first play it, I recommend reading the notes in the readme file otherwise you might find it frustrating if you don't know what's happening!

Anyway, here are a couple of screenies. Just click on them for a full size image.

Sunday 4th February

For those of you who have no idea who I am, and you're visiting this site for the first time, I'm EZkeel and spent the last couple of years doing Level design for Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Whilst Rune was in development, I sat back and waited patiently for the game to be released, and when it was I found it to be the best thing I'd played since ... well, when UT first came out! Both multiplay and single player aspects of it are awesome.

I've been meaning to get around to making some maps for Rune since it was released, but other work and projects held me back for a time. But, I'm here now, with the first of my public releases: DM-Odin (Odin's Quest).

Download it here.

Here are a couple of shots from the map designed for 2 - 8 players.
